Zao Wou-Ki (1921--) is a Chinese-French artist. He studied calligraphy in his childhood and in 1935 enrolled at the School of Fine Arts, Hangzhou. He then went to live in Paris where his early exhibitions were praised by Miro and Picasso. Zao uniquely names all of his works by the date on which they were completed. His work has been Stylistically likened to the Abstract Expressionists, his is also influenced by Impressionism and has stated that his most prominent influences are Matisse, Picasso, Cezanne.
